Information You Submit
Terms Entered in Search Tools
A name, location, or other term entered in a search box is sent to the third-party provider that operates that search service. Gogebic County Released Inmates does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems. The provider may collect and process the request under its separate privacy policy, so visitors should review that policy before submitting personal details.
Messages Sent to Us
If you send an email or use a contact form, the message and return address may be retained long enough to review the request, reply, and maintain an ordinary communication record. We do not share those messages outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law or a valid legal order.
Technical Visit Information
Basic technical information may be recorded automatically when a page loads. This data supports security, performance measurement, and site operation. It can include:
- the visitor's Internet Protocol address;
- browser name and version;
- device category and operating system;
- pages opened and the time spent on them;
- the referring website, when one is supplied; and
- the date and time of the request.
Cookies and Similar Storage
Cookies may help measure how visitors move through the Gogebic County release-record pages and remember basic site functions. Most browsers let users reject, limit, or delete cookies. Blocking them may cause some features, partner services, or preference settings to work differently.
Reasons We Use Data
Information is processed only for site and service functions such as:
- keeping pages available, responsive, and secure;
- sending a search request to the selected partner tool;
- understanding which Gogebic County resources visitors use;
- detecting faults, misuse, and technical problems; and
- displaying advertising that may reflect a visitor's interests.
Other Websites and Services
Links may lead to the Gogebic County Sheriff or Jail, Michigan Department of Corrections, parole and probation resources, federal or ICE locators, court systems, release-record pages, and outside search tools. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination controls its own collection and use of information. Its privacy notice, not this one, applies to activity there.
Some advertising companies may use their own technology to understand visits across multiple websites and select targeted advertisements. That tracking occurs on the advertising partner's systems. We do not control its identifiers, retention periods, or advertising profile.
Parties That May Receive Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited information may be available to parties that perform a defined function or have lawful authority to receive it:
- search partners that process submitted queries;
- analytics providers that measure site use;
- advertising networks that deliver or measure ads; and
- law-enforcement agencies or government bodies responding to a valid subpoena, court order, or other lawful demand.
Security Has Practical Limits
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards are applied to information within our control. No website, transmission route, or Internet-connected storage system is completely secure. We therefore cannot promise that data will never be intercepted, lost, altered, or accessed without permission.
Visitors Younger Than Eighteen
This site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. A parent or guardian who believes a minor submitted information may use the Contacts page to request review and deletion of data that remains within our control.
Your Information Choices
Subject to applicable law and the ability to verify a request, a visitor may ask us to:
- provide a copy of personal data we hold about that visitor;
- correct inaccurate personal information;
- erase information that no longer needs to be retained; or
- stop certain processing where an applicable opt-out right exists.
These requests apply only to information controlled by this private site. Michigan public records held by the Gogebic County Sheriff, courts, MDOC, or another public body follow their own access and retention rules, including the Michigan Freedom of Information Act beginning at MCL 15.231. Requests about an agency record must go to that agency.
Changes to This Notice
Privacy practices and service providers may change. A revised notice will be posted on this page and identified by a new effective date. Continued use after publication means the revised practices apply from that point forward.
